For parents

Many young South Asian Americans wonder how their story fits into the American story.

Our Stories is the resource that many of us have been searching for.

We hope you will share this book with your children and read it together.

The actions we take now can create a better future for the next generation of South Asian Americans.
Grade & age levels
Our Stories was written for high school–aged readers and above.

A group of educators has assessed the book and determined that it may also be appropriate for advanced readers in junior high school (grades 7 and above).

In Our Stories, we have not shied away from a range of difficult topics that are a reality in our lives. In addition to uncovering histories of xenophobia and racism, some of the stories in this book include historical or personal accounts of identity-based violence, sexual assault, and self-harm. These stories are crucial to understanding the lived experiences of what it means to be South Asian American.
