Letter from Kamala Cornelius Printed in the Sept 1930 Alumnae Recorder



DESCRIPTION
Letter from Kamala (Cornelius) Asirvantham, PCW `18 to Chatham University (then Pennsylvania College for Women) alumnae sent from Lucknow, India describing her living arrangements with her husband at the university. The letter contains descriptions of life in Lucknow overall, including the city and climate, clothing worn by women, food favored among various communities in the city, education available to women, and changing tastes in popular music.

Page 2 describes the influence of Mahatmaji Gandhiji on life in India, picketing and disturbances where British goods are sold, and a growth in the population of imprisoned women.
