Open Letter to Count Leo Tolstoy in Reply to His "Letter To A Hindoo"

DESCRIPTION
An "Open Letter to Count Leo Tolstoy in Reply to His 'Letter to a Hindoo,'" written by Taraknath Das and dated October 16, 1909. The letter was a response to Tolstoy's letter to Das, which was published in the Free Hindusthan and dated December 14, 1908. In the letter, Das argues the case for Indian independence, and responds to Tolstoy's call for non-violence. Tolstoy's letter to Das was especially historically significant, as it precipitated Gandhi's correspondence with Tolstoy. The print of the letter contains a personal note from Taraknath Das, which reads "Presented to Mrs and Mr C.H. Shoomer with the Kindest regards of a former N.U. student. Dec 12 -11. Taraknath Das."
