SAADA

A little over a year ago we launched SAADA's First Days Project to collect stories from South Asians about their experiences of arrival in the United States. We have been delighted by the positive response and the more than 100 stories that were submitted to the project. The First Days Project was also featured by PRI's The World, the BBC World Service, India Abroad, Times of India, and numerous other publications both in the U.S. and South Asia.

We also received many requests from those of other immigrant communities interested in collecting their own first day stories. While SAADA's focus is on documenting, preserving, and sharing stories from South Asian Americans, our larger vision is for American and world histories that fully acknowledge the importance of immigrants and ethnic communities in the past, strengthen such communities in the present, and inspire discussion about their role in the future. Through the First Days Project, we see an exciting opportunity to explore the shared experiences of immigrants and immigrant communities.

Today, we're proud to announce the launch of our *new* First Days Project website, dedicated to sharing stories of arrival in the United States from those who immigrated from all parts of the world.

Our first partner is The Seattle Globalist, a daily publication covering the connections between Seattle and the rest of the globe, whose contributors collected 15 stories from those living in Seattle who arrived in the U.S. from China, Mexico, Serbia, Russia, and many other parts of the world.
