From Chicago to the White House
NOVEMBER 7, 2013
July 10, 2008: SAADA is founded in Chicago.
November 5, 2013: SAADA participates in the White House Diwali Celebration alongside Michelle Obama.
Does this story sound familiar? An underdog in Chicago with few resources but a committed core of volunteers had a vision to change the world. It took some time, but that underdog went all the way to the White House. Well, that’s the story of SAADA!
We started SAADA in 2008 because we recognized that stories from South Asian American communities were in danger of being forgotten by history. Today, our freely-accessible digital archive contains nearly 1,500 items reflecting the diversity of South Asian American experiences. Back in 2008, we could never have imagined that we would come this far.
We need your support to give voice to South Asian Americans, share these important yet overlooked stories with new audiences, and realize the full impact of what SAADA can accomplish. Please consider sponsoring an item in the archive and supporting its preservation and care for $10/month or $120 for the year.
Your support is what allows SAADA to be a valuable resource for anyone who believes in the power of the past in shaping the future.
